  1. Immune system mast cells, etc. ramp up and do their thing and attack the invader.

  2. Too much of a good thing and “something …” triggers hyper production of immune cells in thinking and wham-o… bang-o… .pneumonia like fluid concentrations…

Farr’s Law and COVID-19

COVID-19 May burn itself out naturally by summer.

Farr’s law was formulated by Dr William Farr in 1840 indicates that Epidemic outbreaks follow a bell-curve pattern.

Almost all epidemics follow this pattern, including a sharp increase in cases at the beginning of the cycle, a peak, and then a decline in cases and a return to baseline.

The pattern exists because human beings modify their behavior to avoid getting sick, and those who do get sick seek medical attention.

China, which had its first cases in December, peaked in late January or early February, and now is in the decline of spread phase because of modified behavior (Quarantines, social distancing, medical care, etc).

US is about 45-50 days behind where China sits, still in the ‘up’ phase of the Bell Curve.

Farr’s law indicates that our Peak in cases should be in April/early May, and then a decline through June/July.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill tested conventional household disinfectants, hospital disinfectants and natural alternatives to measure each product’s ability to kill specific hazardous microbes.
Conventional disinfectants used in the experiment included Clorox, ethanol, Mr. Clean Ultra, Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol Antibacterial Kitchen Cleaner. Hospital disinfectants were TBQ, Vesphene and ethanol. Natural alternatives included vinegar and baking soda.
“The good news was that [all of the commercial disinfectants] were very good, eliminating 99.9 percent or more of microbes,” said William Rutala, professor of medicine at UNC. “The bad news was that such natural products as vinegar and baking soda didn’t work nearly as well.”

(Cytokine and other mediator over response syndrimenthat causes fluid build up and inflammation in the alveoli resulting in respiratory shock and secondary pneumonia).

There are also some concerns that the virus may also affect the heart.

Early results from China indicate that 16.7% of patients developed arrhythmias, 7.2% developed cardiac injury and 8.7% developed shock. These complication rates were much higher for patients needing ICU admission compared to those who were managed on the floor.

The infection of SARS‐CoV has been reported in the brains from both patients and experimental animals, where the brainstem was heavily infected.

Furthermore, some coronaviruses have been demonstrated able to spread via a synapse‐connected route to the medullary cardiorespiratory center from the mechanoreceptors and chemoreceptors in the lung and lower respiratory airways.

In light of the high similarity between SARS‐CoV and SARS‐CoV2, it is quite likely that the potential invasion of SARS‐CoV2 is partially responsible for the acute respiratory failure of patients with COVID‐19.

Awareness of this will have important guiding significance for the prevention and treatment of the SARS‐CoV‐2‐induced respiratory failure.
